My original plan was America. I wanted to study there and play hockey. I already had offers in progress and was aiming for Princeton. But during a preparation match I broke my finger, and instead of a year-long contract I was sent home. At the airport in New York, I was wondering what to do next.
I joined Plzeň and at the same time enrolled at the Faculty of Arts, but the evening lectures did not really appeal to me. At that moment, my friend Lukáš Dietrich recommended NEWTON University, saying it had been his best student decision. And he was right.
At the Open Day I was impressed not only by the atmosphere of the school but also by the people’s approach. After just two weeks I knew half of my classmates. After two years of studying I can say that I am more than satisfied – not only because of the teaching itself but also because of the friends and contacts I have made here.
I still play hockey. After returning from America, I played in Plzeň, at Slavia and in Kobra. Last season I played for the University in Pardubice, because NEWTON as a private university does not have its own university league.
Thanks to the school, I also got a job that I really enjoy. I work as a BIM Specialist in a French construction company. It happened by chance – I created a CV, put it online, and a headhunter contacted me. After the interview I got an offer for a part-time position, a company car and a phone. And most importantly, a job in which I see great potential.
In the future, I want to continue with an master´s degree and maybe even an MBA. In construction I focus on digitalisation and I believe this field has a big future – we are moving from paper plans to 3D models, drones and new technologies.
If someone asks me what NEWTON University means to me in one word, my answer is: opportunities. The lecturers treat us with respect, pass on knowledge from practice, and 80–90% of what we learn I can apply in real life.
And my advice for new students?
Do not be afraid to ask questions, go to events, make contacts, and take advantage of everything the school offers. Because there are really a lot of opportunities at NEWTON University.
