What should every first-year student know?

What should every first-year student know?

Your first weeks might feel overwhelming – new subjects, new systems, new people. That’s normal. The key is getting oriented quickly and taking it step by step.

Some tips to get started:

  • Use a calendar or app to stay on top of deadlines.
  • Ask older students for advice – they’ve been in your shoes.
  • Balance study, work and rest – it all matters.
  • Mistakes are part of the process. You’ll learn and grow from them.

How to study effectively

How to study effectively

There’s no single right way to learn – but some methods truly work.

Here are the ones recommended by our students and lecturers:

  • Short, regular study blocks are better than all-nighters.
  • Explain what you’ve learned in your own words.
  • Try the Pomodoro method – 25 minutes focused, 5-minute break.
  • Use mind maps and test yourself.
  • Connect theory to real examples.
  • Don’t underestimate sleep – it’s essential for memory.

Internships during your studies

Internships during your studies

At NEWTON, it’s not just about theory. We believe the best way to prepare for your future career is through hands-on experience.

  • In your first year, you’ll build a strong theoretical foundation.
  • In your second and third years, your timetable becomes more flexible – giving you space for your internship.
  • You’ll build on that experience when writing your thesis and preparing for final exams.
